Glaucoma Care
Glaucoma is an insidious ocular disease that causes peripheral vision loss in the early stages before it impacts central vision (meaning that vision is lost from the outside of your visual field first and then moves in). Many people do not realize that they have glaucoma until it is too late because their central vision is not impacted at first and most types of glaucoma do not cause any symptoms. Unfortunately, once vision is lost to glaucoma, it cannot be brought back. It is important to diagnose and initiate treatment of glaucoma early to prevent this permanent vision loss.
Our doctors are experienced at diagnosing and managing various types of glaucoma. While a “glaucoma test” is part of a yearly comprehensive eye examination, there are many factors that go into diagnosing and managing glaucoma. If you have already been diagnosed with glaucoma, it is important to have frequent visits with your eye doctor to ensure that your glaucoma is not progressing. Our office utilizes technologically advanced methods including Frequency Doubling Technology (FDT) visual fields and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to ensure your glaucoma is well managed. And we will never subject you to an “air puff” test!
Even if you have not been diagnosed with glaucoma, you may have one or more risk factors that makes more frequent evaluation advisable to ensure you do not develop glaucoma. Our doctors will let you know at the time of your examination if you fall into this category and will set up an evaluation schedule that makes sense for you and your level of risk to help prevent glaucomatous vision loss.
